In the previous week, it was determined which group member would do which task. Bridget Breslin was named team leader, Amanda Ngov was named the designer and constructor of the bridge, and I was named record keeper for all changes and updates to the design. It is very important for all members to have a say in the design of the bridge. Some members may see a flaw in the design or a better way to create the bridge that the other may not notice.
A basic design of a truss bridge was created using West Point Bridge Designer. A series of triangles were used in the design in order to maximize the load capacity. This was the first time West Point Bridge Design was used with all three group members present. After a few technical difficulties, the group was able to create the first design. As a result of only one person being able to use the program at a time, it create a few problems such as miss-communications on design flaws.
Three questions that would greatly assist the group are:
1. How would one go about researching the design of bridges?
2. How is the design of a bridge affected by nature?
3. What is the longest standing truss bridge?
